Questions

Is the quote free?

Yes. The tree surgeon will usually want to see the tree, or photos of it, before giving you a price. There's no obligation to go ahead.

Do I need permission to cut down a tree?

Sometimes. In Ireland, felling some trees needs a felling licence from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and trees under a tree preservation order or in an architectural conservation area need the council's permission. A good tree surgeon will check this with you before starting.

When is the best time to cut hedges?

Under the Wildlife Act, hedges on uncultivated land generally can't be cut from 1 March to 31 August, during nesting season, apart from some exceptions. Garden hedges are different, but it's still best to check for nests first.

Can I send photos?

Yes. WhatsApp photos of the tree or hedge to 087 210 4736 and they'll be passed on with your request. It often saves a visit.
